About Impinge

What is Impinge?

Impinge is a political prediction game where you compete to make the most accurate predictions. By making solid predictions and seeing when we're wrong, we can reduce our comfirmation bias. It's also fun to see that yourself on the leaderboard.

How It Works

New featured questions are released twice daily. When questions are resolved in the real world, you earn (or lose) points based on how accurate your prediction was.

Scoring Algorithm

Your score is calculated using a formula that rewards both accuracy and contrarian thinking. The more people who agree with you, the fewer points you earn for being correct.

The Formula:
Base Points: +10 for correct, -10 for incorrect
Popularity Adjustment: (1 - popularity) × 20
Final Score: Base Points ± Popularity Adjustment
Examples:
Correct Prediction
You voted "Yes" (correct)
80% of people voted "Yes"
Popularity: 0.8
Score: +10 + (1-0.8)×20 = +14 points
Contrarian Correct
You voted "No" (correct)
20% of people voted "No"
Popularity: 0.2
Score: +10 + (1-0.2)×20 = +26 points
Incorrect Prediction
You voted "Yes" (incorrect)
80% of people voted "Yes"
Popularity: 0.8
Score: -10 - (1-0.8)×20 = -6 points
Contrarian Incorrect
You voted "No" (incorrect)
20% of people voted "No"
Popularity: 0.2
Score: -10 - (1-0.2)×20 = -26 points
